ALBUQUERQUE —  Two police officers have sued Burger King Corp., claiming they were served hamburgers that had been sprinkled with marijuana. The lawsuit says Mark Landavazo and Henry Gabaldon, officers for the Isleta Pueblo tribal police, were in uniform and riding in a marked patrol car when they bought meals at the drive-through lane Oct. 8 of a Burger King restaurant in Los Lunas, N.M.The officers ate about half of their burgers before discovering marijuana on the meat, the lawsuit said. They used a field test kit to confirm the substance was pot, then went to a hospital for medical evaluations.

“It gives a whole new meaning to the word ‘Whopper,”‘ the officers’ attorney, Sam Bregman, said Monday. “The idea that these hoodlums would put marijuana into a hamburger and therefore attempt to impair law enforcement officers trying to do their jobs is outrageous.”

Three Burger King employees were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and aggravated battery on an officer, a felony. They later were indicted.

This is a crazy story.  I think it was somewhat funny what these kids tried to get away with, but also pretty dumb.  I don’t know how they figured they would get away with doing such a thing, but I’m glad they tried because I was laughing pretty hard when I heard about this.  I can’t understand why the officers were so upset. It’s not like they got charged extra or anything.  They should have been happy with the free extra ingredients.  I do think that filing a lawsuit is a little over the top.  The employees who did this will lose their jobs and have now been indicted.  I think that’s punishment enough, but of course the officers see a chance to make money off of a big corporation like Burger King and that’s what they’ll try to do.  After all that’s probably what most people would do given this situation, but shouldn’t police officers be held to a higher standard. Shouldn’t they just drop the lawsuit and be fine with the way they handled the case. I don’t know, maybe you don’t agree.

  1. I completely agree…..honestly there was no need for a law suit. It is a higer corp. which therefore, would conclude in more money if the lawsuit was won. But really just fire the kids and punish them as if you found them in a car or in a park or something. It is a rather funny story, but really stupid on their part. The best part about it was that they were cops….how ironic. I can seriously picture these two cops laughing so hard with their little kit out testing to see if its pot and then deciding they were going to go to the hospital…..LOL

  2. I find this story to be pretty amusing as well. I think that the police officer should relax a litte bit. I think there would have to be a substantial amount of marijuana on the burgers for the officers to be affected by simply eating it. It is absurd that the kids were charged with aggravated battery. The cops should stop whining and take the situation for what it is, an opporutunity for them to enjoy forbidden pleasures without the consequences.

  3. It is pretty funny, but if I was a cop of any other person, I would try to suck out as much money as I can out of Burger King. I mean think about it, Police Officers don’t get paid enough for what they do. I am not trying to defend anyone in this case, but I do think that they did the right thing. You can not tell me that you wouldn’t want all of that money that you would get out of that law suit. It is what it is, and it funny how the kids didn’t think that they would get caught. What kind of pleasure is that, seeing other people eat a burger that has pot? They actually wasted their money to give it to someone else for a joke? You would think that the kids would take the pot for themselves. Losers!…lol

  4. This is really funny. I wonder if these kids really thought that they would be able t get away with it. I wonder they did it. It was probably just a pratical joke. I know that being in possession of weed is just a misdemenor so can they really get in that much trouble but then again they did feed it to cops. I sure hope they got there kicks out of it because they are sure going to have to pays big time for this one. But should the cops really be sueing burger king or the kids that did this???
